SACRAMENTO, CA- The Sacramento Eagles hosted the first annual National Golf League event of the 2008 season, and celebrated with a beer fest and a victory over the visiting NorCal Teams clinching a spot in the NGL finals in May 2009.
The “Suds on the Green” event combines a beerfest with golf fans for a new twist on golf. The nontraditional league created a party atmosphere that circled the ninth hole at William Land Golf Course. The event attracted over 2000 people eager to taste beer and cheer on their local golf team. Loud music with an announcer permeated the ninth hole with play by play action.
The Sacramento Eagles took first place by generating 29 points over second place Silicon Valley Drivers, 27, and the Valley Zone, 27. Sonoma Marin Breakers finished with 26, East Bay Power finished with 20.
Eagle’s Russ Humphrey and Brian Tucker won the coveted three point hole over the Zone’s pro Charlie Gibson and Pete Mason. Marc Peterson and James Watt followed them by also birdying the bonus hole over the Drivers. Those crucial six points catapulted the Eagles to a win witnessed by an enthusiastic, festive crowd. The Golf Channel host of Highway 18, Keri Murphy, was in attendance signing autographs and was excited to witness her first NGL event.
